It has been so long since I've visited my own blog, I forgot the last post was just after we put our house on the market! Now, here we are in Alabama, and some people we only know slightly are living in the house that we still own (sigh). That's a very weird feeling, but thanks to the grace of God, I am not anxious about it. In fact, since our realtor called to say that the Sawyers were interested in renting and then buying our house, I have had a great sense of calm and relief about it. Hopefully, I can feel the same way about staying in this apartment for four years.
None of the GA/TN/AL Davenports have had great attitudes lately. Hopefully, we're still just adjusting to our various new ways of life, but my patience is starting to run thin with the girls. They probably aren't complaining and disputing a lot more than they did in Chattanooga, but there is no escape from the ruckus. Besides, I am always painfully aware of the fact that our neighbors can likely hear most of our noise (based on the fact that we can also hear them), and I hate being a bother. Suffice to say that my own behavior hasn't been much better than theirs. We recently heard a sermon about God's love and how human love, even that of a parent for a child, will always be a pale imitation, but I pray that God will help me to love my children unselfishly and to be a better mother than I have been.

For Sale
Well, our house is officially on the market. After two weeks of hard work, a lot of paint, and more Clorox wipes than I care to think about, I feel that I can finally relax a bit. Of course, we never would have gotten things ready this quickly without the help of my parents and my in-laws, and there's no way I can repay them for the time, money, and energy they invested in helping us. I can only promise to do the same thing for my girls one day.
It is strange to be sitting down without a feeling of guilt, a nagging sensation that I should be doing something else. It is also strange to have worked so hard to make my house beautiful for other people. Many of the projects we completed were things I had wanted to do from the first day we moved into this house. I will have to just enjoy them during the time we have left here, I suppose, and I will also try to remember not to procrastinate on such things in the future.
Speaking of procrastination, I do still have a few things to do before I go to bed, so I guess that's it for now.

Face Recognition Fun
I discovered this on a friend's blog, and Steve and I had fun investigating who our children resemble. To be fair, the first time we tried Elinor, the meter said she looked equally like both of us.

Fun times...and not so fun times
Well, I finally got the children's fall clothes out today. It's amazing I was able to postpone it until the end of October, but as the days are finally getting cooler, I convinced Steve it was time. Since this is the first time we've had clothes stored in an attic, this is the first time I needed his help. (I just can't get the boxes down and up by myself. I'm a wimp, remember?) I don't think he ever realized before just how involved a task it is (and why I gripe about it so much). Even with him helping part of the time, the job took about five hours! I paid dearly for the haphazard way I had stored the clothes the last season change. This time, I was very careful to organize everything by size and season, and I labelled each box. I hope that will make things easier in the spring.
Today was not completely labor-intensive. I had a very pleasant time this morning taking Joanna and Elinor to a special fall reading time at our local reading center. Jessica has been going to a book club (for 2nd and 3rd graders) at the center this fall, so Joanna was thrilled they were having something for kindergarteners today. I felt a little bad for the nice lady who runs the center, because we were the only people who came. Still, Joanna and Elinor had a great time. It also helped me to have somewhere to take them, since Steve and Jessica went to help tend the lawn at the National Memorial for the Unborn. (Our church got together a group to do this, and we could have all gone. I didn't think I'd be much help, though, with keeping an eye on Elinor.) Joanna did get to have some alone time with Daddy, when he went to Wal-Mart to get our oil changed.
One nice thing is that I feel like we have FINALLY had a productive Saturday. Yay!
